Test Engineer

Sensor Systems in Sterling, Virginia is the leading developer of sophisticated image-centric geo-spatial analysis software.  Our RemoteView product family combines a wide range of image enhancement, geodetic analysis, GIS, multi-spectral and precision positioning tools.  We are looking for talented and innovative software development professionals to join our team as we develop high-performance applications for high resolution commercial and government imaging satellites as well as tactical airborne imaging platforms.

The successful candidate will work with the development, support and testing team responsible for  software product development.

Applicant will be responsible for the identification and adoption of a commercial testing framework, as well as built-in unit testing framework, to support software product testing. Applicant will support the organization in integrated engineering planning and technical leadership capacity as it applies to testing methodology.

Applicants must possess the following skills:

Applicant must have working knowledge of test methodologies. Applicant will be responsible for ongoing development of test objectives, test plans/procedures/reports. Additional responsibilities include test analysis, test facility/tools procurement, and verification of operational and technical requirements allocated to software systems. This includes developing internal test procedures, technical specifications, interface definition, modeling, verification and validation of testing methodologies.

Experience and Education Requirements:  

BS/BA in CS, or engineering field.  Requires experience in developing testing processes, working within and between integrated teams, good organizational skills, and good communication skills. Must have the ability to perform a variety of tasks (maximum flexibility) in a dynamic team environment. Typically persons in this position would have at least 5 years of applicable experience.

Technical Writer

The successful candidate will be responsible for completing documentation tasks on time and budget within an aggressive schedule. Additional responsibilities include writing, formatting, editing, and validating user guides, technical manuals, security related publications and software documentation including help pages and reference guides. Designing, creating, and integrating graphics for program documentation and preparing program documentation for delivery in all formats and media are also included in this position’s responsibilities.

The technical writer must also review and edit program documents for technical accuracy in accordance with all applicable documentation standards and style guides. He/she will collaborate with subject matter experts to develop thorough and accurate technical documents.


Applicants must possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • BA in English, Technical communications, tech discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to research, compose, and proof technical documentation.
  • Excellent oral and written skills.
  • Five years experience in technical writing experience required.

Ideal candidate possesses computer proficiency with technical writing applications such as Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and MS Visio. Ability to work as a team player with minimal supervision a must. Capable of supporting tight production, multi-project schedules.

Software Build Manager

The Software Build Manager will perform two distinct roles. The first role is to refine, plan and implement day to day configuration management tasks. The second role is to manage the build process, including installer scripts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing a framework for source code control, integrity of artifacts, development workspace management and change management
  • Creating and maintaining configuration management standards which are reliable and repeatable in automated software build process across applications
  • Creating and maintaining installers for software applications using InstallShield
  • Defining/updating standard processes for configuration and change management
  • Maintaining automated nightly build process for project components
  • Developing and maintaining project related triggers and scripts in ClearCase based on project needs.
  • Creating and maintaining Internal Configuration Management Documents and Training manuals
  • Monitoring and maintaining the ClearCase VOB and View servers. Maintaining LINUX and Windows build hosts used for Configuration Management
  • Continuously improving on processes, performance and framework based on feedback from project managers, development managers and test managers
  • Training technology professionals in usage of CCM process and tools
  • Interacting with development staff to setup project workspaces and build generation based on standards to suit the needs of specific development project

The requirements for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Must have three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the Software Industry with a minimum of two (2) years of Configuration Management experience
  • Experience as the manager of a Configuration Management Team with the following:
    1. Managed at least 6 major projects from the requirements phase to release phase
    2. Managed at least 3 projects with multiple versions of the application in Production
    3. Handled component level merges of source code for these applications
  • Experience in planning and prioritizing tasks and workflow, the ability to work independently
  • Communicate effectively at different levels of the organization
  • Experience in the Rational Unified Change Management (UCM) process and Rational ClearCase with in-depth knowledge and experience of the following:
    1. Parallel Development features of UCM
    2. Development Streams, Maintenance streams, Delivers, Baselines, Rebases and Merges
    3. Inter-project delivers, sharing of common components across projects, composite components
    4. Baseline promotion levels and attributes
  • Knowledge of Capability Maturity Model (CMM), Rational Unified Process (RUP) for software development and Software Development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Extensive knowledge of Software Build Management and Release Management Processes
  • Extensive Knowledge of ClearCase processes and Cleartool commands. Knowledge of ClearCase in an inter-op environment, interaction of ClearCase with UNIX and knowledge of inter-op software

The successful candidate will utilize photogrammetric knowledge to develop algorithms applied to satellite and airborne sensor data for various requirements in support of DoD and the Intelligence Community. Current experience with applied image processing techniques and analysis is necessary.  Algorithm testing and insertion into COTS software is required.

  • Two (2) or more years experience in C++ programming.

Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a friendly presence with customers, and great troubleshooting skills.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • 2+ years computer troubleshooting or helpdesk support experience
